About Tim; The science behind the simple advice.

I’m Tim. I’m 69, I have Type 2 diabetes, and I care for my 92-year-old mother. Health isn’t just a topic for me, it’s daily life.

When I was first diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, I did what most people do: I went online looking for answers.

What I found was frustrating. There was plenty of information, but most of it fell into one of two categories. Either it was hopelessly vague (“eat better, exercise more”) or it was buried in medical jargon that even an educated person struggles to parse. I watched YouTube videos where the presenter casually dropped terms that would leave most viewers more confused than when they started.

Here’s the thing: I’m a retired chemistry and biology teacher with master’s-degree-level research experience in Biochemistry. I can read a scientific journal. I understand the mechanisms. And I kept thinking, someone needs to translate this into plain English.

So I did.

From the Classroom to the Research Desk

I spent decades teaching science. My job was always the same: take something complex, find the clearest possible way to explain it, and make sure the person in front of me actually understood it, not just nodded along.

After my diagnosis, I applied that same approach to health research. I went deep into the scientific literature, peer-reviewed studies, clinical trials, biochemistry journals, and started writing. That research turned into two full books (which I never published, but the process taught me more than I expected).

Eventually, those books turned into this blog.

Why Seniors? Why This Niche?

Simple: I’m living it.

At 69, I’m managing a chronic condition, staying as active as I can, and spending significant time as a caregiver for my 92-year-old mother. I understand firsthand how different health challenges look at this stage of life, and how much the “standard” health advice misses the mark for older adults.

The exercises designed for 30-year-olds. The dietary advice that ignores medications and metabolism. The supplement recommendations that don’t account for drug interactions. I’ve been on the receiving end of all of it.

Tim’s Health Tips exists to fill that gap, practical, evidence-based health information written specifically for people over 60, in language that doesn’t require a medical degree to understand.

What You’ll Find Here

Every post on this site is:

  • Grounded in science, I research the primary sources, not just other blogs
  • Written in plain language, no unnecessary jargon, no condescension
  • Relevant to real life, especially life as a senior or caregiver
  • Honest, if the evidence is mixed, I’ll say so

I’m not selling miracle cures or pushing supplements. I’m a retired science teacher who did the research, lived the experience, and wants to share what actually helps.
